Before you start
Have three things ready: a simple offer (a free lead magnet such as a checklist or mini-course), a rough idea of a paid product, and optionally a domain name. If funnels are new to you, skim what a sales funnel is first.
Setting up systeme.io step by step
- Create your free account. Sign up on the free plan; you can upgrade later. Create a free account
- Complete your profile and sender settings. Add your business name and the email address your emails will come from. Accurate sender details help deliverability and legal compliance.
- Connect a custom domain (optional but recommended). Add your domain in the settings and follow the DNS instructions. Authenticating your domain for email improves inbox placement.
- Build an opt-in funnel. Create a new funnel, choose a lead-capture template, and edit the headline, bullet points, and form. Add a thank-you page that delivers your lead magnet.
- Write a welcome email sequence. Create an email campaign with 3–5 emails: deliver the freebie, share your story, teach something useful, then introduce your paid offer. Our email list guide has a template.
- Connect the funnel to the sequence with automation. Add a rule so that when someone submits your opt-in form, they're tagged and enrolled in the welcome campaign.
- Connect payments and create a product. Connect your payment processor (such as Stripe or PayPal), then create a sales page and checkout. Consider an order bump on checkout and a one-click upsell afterward.
- Add your course or digital product. If you sell a course, build modules and lessons and set enrollment to trigger after purchase. See selling courses with systeme.io.
- Test everything, then launch. Opt in with a test email, check every email arrives, run a test purchase, and confirm course access. Then share your opt-in page.
Common beginner mistakes
- Building too many funnels at once. One opt-in funnel and one offer, working end to end, beats five half-built ones.
- Skipping the welcome sequence. New subscribers are most engaged in the first few days.
- Not testing the checkout. Always run a test purchase before sending traffic.
- Ignoring compliance. Include an unsubscribe link, your business address where required, and clear consent on forms.
